Professor Laurie Hartman qualified as an osteopath in 1964
at the British School of Osteopathy. Since that time he has been in
practice and teaching at the BSO and at courses worldwide. Travelling to
some 27 countries over the years has exposed him to a variety of
approaches to technique which he has integrated and developed so that he
now teaches and practises manipulation with the least amount of stress,
distortion and trauma to the tissues. 1994 saw him proudly receive the honour of an associate professorship from Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, and this is one of the factors that made him fight to regain his ability to teach and return to the teaching world which he so loves. Following a near-fatal accident in 2002 with only a 1% survival chance, he has fought back in his own indomitable way, despite permanent slight brain damage, to teach again at courses and seminars, and to treat patients again. This would not have been possible without the professional help of osteopathic friends and colleagues plus many other therapists from other walks of health care. Laurie still delights in being asked for second opinions from colleagues worldwide, and it is a tribute to osteopathy and his belief in this system that he is where he is today. When not working, Laurie enjoys golf, driving, walking, campervan holidays, building model cars, boats planes and helicopters, and if there is time left, family life! |

Susan Hartman is a remedial massage practitioner. She
graduated from the Northern Institute of Massage in 1991. Since that
time she has been constantly upgrading her skills and knowledge by
attending numerous postgraduate seminars and courses. She splits her time now between treating patients and assisting her husband, Professor Laurie Hartman, teaching and demonstrating manipulative and manual therapy methods on courses in many countries around the world. Together, they have taught an average of 20-30 courses a year to all branches of the manual therapy professions. Susan uses a very eclectic approach, integrating massage, manual therapy and osteopathic methods into her therapy. Participants find that her ability to ensure that their posture is efficient often enables them to be able to apply methods they had previously found difficult or impossible. When not travelling, teaching or in practice, Susan enjoys gardening, golf, cooking and family life.
